ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This surreal work is a demonstration of the maxim, See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil. There are various meanings ascribed to the monkeys and the proverb including associations with being of good mind, speech and action. In the Western world the phrase is often used to refer to those who deal with impropriety by turning a blind eye. The work flowed easily in the form of layers of clay from the inspiration spurred by society's fear of facing situations or not willing to address consequences. The work is white painted and sealed clay mounted on a concrete base.

Florida based self-taught artist Diane Tacinelli, quiet and reclusive in life, speaks loudly through her work cutting through formalities and going straight to the core of her inspirations through the freedom of surrealism. She houses a lifetime of deep thoughts, concerns and burdens of society ranging from poverty, abuse and identity crisis to general overall imbalance as well as a great amount of hope and aspiration, which are released in the studio through spontaneous soul searching works. The inspirations of each piece created emerge alongside her contemplation and reflection and deliver the power to provoke a profound response. Her greatest release is working bare handed with concrete or clay with little or no use of tools, which results in a physically and visually satisfying bond linking body and mind to the work. As temperament and topics vacillate, so do her mediums and the creative flow will often transition to painting when a particular inspiration triggers a need for more detailed narrative. Her style of painting mirrors her sculptures in feel and flow with a surreal display of the allegory to be told. The quest to illustrate her empathy, sympathy, frustrations and present controversial questions is brought to life, layer upon layer, through her contributions of visual storytelling with the intention of awakening one’s own inner perception, exposing unexpected inquiry and reaction.
