The surface of the water serves as a mirror. That is why this artwork is named ARCTURUS and DRACONIS ones of the brightest stars perceived from Earth. My sculptures illustrate the infinite diversity of nature of which so much remains to be explored on our planet, such as the immensity of Space, with its unknown planets, stars, and galaxies so mysterious and so far from us. Indeed, marine waters hide an invaluable treasure: extraordinary biodiversity. By making sculptures in natural shells gilded with 24-carat gold, I desire to highlight this diversity and the beauty of underwater nature, which remains unfortunately unknown to us. By continuing the reflection on the Ocean and the Cosmos, strong similarities appeared: this darkness that bathes them both, the extreme conditions which reign there, the unknown area which pushes constantly our humanity to innovate and find a way to explore this uncharted territory. As well as, since the dawn of time, a combination of fear and admiration that they arouse, makes them a tremendous source of inspiration for our imagination.

Mariya Velychko is a contemporary artist from Nice, on the French Riviera. Her artworks combine ancestral and contemporary gilding techniques with the modernity of pure lines and natural elements, magnified by the shifting luminosity of gold. She fell in love with the working of gold many years ago. Its warm color, a symbol of refinement and elegance, is now at the core of her creations, inspired by women, nature, animals, or the south of France. She is also passionate about working with the natural elements, transforming them into finely chiselled metal sculptures, gorgeously accentuating all features of these compositions. Her style: pure lines, specific techniques, and meticulous know-how.The shifting luminosity of gold and minimalist representations are at the heart of her artworks, full of lightness and great finesse. Light is the key element in her work, it constantly interacts with the textures and shapes creating the singularity of her artworks.
