ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Bishop Checkmate III ( Scacco Matto Terza versione ) armature wood and metal foam, filler various material 70.8H x 19.6 W x 17.7 D inch. ( 180 x 50 x 45 cm) Series 2020 This piece ( see the pictures that shows the entire sculpture with basement and support) is the Third version of a Bishop portrait in sculpture of chess game: indeed this series is part of my last research over the Chess game, its pieces formes, the silhouettes and its easthetics: I created a big Installation with all the chess pieces in sculptures and figures and several pantings and sketches as a storyboard of the research. In these sulpture, my stylistic note is a large use of wood, metal and expanded foam, all harmonized in a composition finished with a special papier-mache, macerated for days, blended and resin-coated: with this I try to offer to the viewer metaphorical interpretations of the temporal dimension lived through metaphorical symbols and presences...

I try to express myself in the two languages of art, painting and sculpture, passing from one to the other with fluid naturalness, following the red thread of a continuous experimentation of the material. In the PAINTINGS, where the wet color slides to the surface leaving little space for the overhang and the color selection is reduced to the minimum terms, I am looking for to use constantly different support materials, going from the classic canvas, to the wood up to the use of plexiglass which gives back to the works an intense self-supporting brightness. In the SCULPTURE my stylistic note is a large use of wood, metal and expanded foam, all harmonized in a composition finished with a special papier-mache, macerated for days, blended and resin-coated. Ultimately I try to offer to the viewers metaphorical interpretations of the temporal dimension lived through metaphorical symbols and presences, enhancing by my background as an reserscher and a set designer, in a renewed creative direction...
