Nikolaus Weiler has lived and worked as a freelance sculptor in Berlin since 1993. His work focusses on the construction of space and body from and to all sides. The aim is a rhythmic and objective sculpture in the field of tension between dynamics, movement, rhythm and change. The all-dimensional sculptures are a special kind. They are created in a constructive development process of spaces and bodies that expand in all directions inwards and outwards into the surroundings. An all-dimensional sculpture can be presented in different ways, changing its spatial appearance and physical expression in a lively way. It can be weightless, static, dynamic or architectural. The construction of the spatial sculptures consists of 2 different materials that complement and expand each other in their properties. The surfaces of the materials become routes through the space. The metal surfaces reflect the light and the surroundings and convey light and lightness. The wooden surfaces absorb the light and suggest materiality and depth. Both endlessly curved surfaces run through the interior and exterior spaces of the sculpture. Technique of sculptures made of wood and metal Cut and bent metal sheets form the basic structure. Plywood substructures stabilise and secure the metal construction. Many wooden parts are fitted and glued between the sheets and onto the substructure. In addition, the metal sheets are fixed and anchored in the wood with special countersunk rivets (almost invisible). All surfaces are finely sanded and protected with primers. Finally, they are preserved and finished with Renaissance polishing wax. Each sculpture is unique. It is handmade and created by Nikolaus Weiler. Before shipping, it is again preserved and polished.
