A well constructed piece with nice sloping shoulders. It is a subtle shade of blue not quite as shouting as the colour on my computer seems to suggest, (perhaps I need to recalibrate). It was made from a medium textured buff stoneware using the slabbing technique. Once the work has been scratched-up, slipped-up and assembled with pressure, it is left to dry for up to a month. During that time it will be marked on the base, monitored with constant turning to retain the shape, and more scratches made with a serrated metal kidney at the leather hard stage. It is then Bisque fired to 1000 oc. After which several coats of blue underglaze, matte blue glaze and copper oxide are painted on. Then it's given a second glaze firing Between 1240-1280 oc. It has a flat base so is reasonably stable, but it's quite heavy and narrow so please be mindful of this. PLEASE SEE: The About Barbara Green-Blower, section on The Profile Page, before purchasing, as it contains lots of CARE and SAFETY Guidelines.

This section includes: CARE & SAFETY GUIDELINES. There are 3 mains strands to Barbara's work: large bowls, flattened shapes and small pots. She is constantly experimenting with new materials, tools and techniques to produce new and interesting work. she works alone in her studio making each piece by hand from start to finish. Consequently some pieces may feature small imperfections consistent with and characteristic of this method of making, in some cases her work is about as far away as you can get from perfectly formed factory production pieces. Each piece is signed, numbered and dated on the base making it unique and collectable. All original drawings and paintings will now be signed on the back, but Limited Editions will be signed on the front. From the 1st January 2020 all work sold through will come with a Certificate of Authenticity. At the risk of appearing presumptuous, Thank You notes will now be enclosed when sending work to avoid delay or loss. As you know it's worth keeping them, as they add provenance to the work, should you decide to sell at some future stage. (CARE and SAFETY GUIDELINES) CARE: Please wipe work with a lint free cloth or well rung-out sponge. On larger pieces, furniture protection pads have been added, which will need replacing from time to time and can be purchased readily from hardware stores. SPECIAL CARE: Designs such as; Italian Decay, Cassata, Crystals, and Relics, should NOT be submerged in water or have water/liquid put into them, this may discolour the pot or possibly flood and discolour your furniture. They are very much decorative items NOT functional ones. SPECIAL CARE should be taken around large heavy flattened shapes, as they are often made on the edge of what's physically possible, which might make them unstable in certain conditions; such as children crawling around a floor, in cases such as this the piece should be REMOVED for reasons of SAFETY. PLEASE NOTE: Barbara's work is NOT: dishwasher, microwave, oven, fridge, freezer or food/liquid safe. With an ever increasing range of glaze ingredients being listed as toxic with regard to food/liquids, I'm glad that I took the decision from the outset never to claim any of my work is either food/liquid safe and still maintain that position. It is Not really suitable for outdoors, this would be entirely at your own risk.
