ABOUT THE ARTWORK

ZUKI family. GUSTAVO nato a Pisa il 12/07/2021 reinforced concrete , resin e steel 26x21x3cm 1kg A series of colorful and masked statues, all different, all with a strong personality, but hidden by a mask, a mask that covers them faces. What’s hidden there? No one knows. With a mask we are all the same, but all different too. In fact, these ornaments are not fixed and can be changed according to situations, tastes and moods. These works embody the concept of the Pirandellian mask, that is nothing more than a mystification, an alienating symbol, a symptom/indication of the depersonalization and shattering of the ego into multiple identities. In the same way our Zuki react to the outside world, they color, laugh, scream and make faces, in a sort of exorcization. Sculptures that challenge the life’s pains and worries , putting on the mask, accept and mystify life. The Zuki are fetishes that in a sarcastic way try to glorify, the contemporary man, who hides behind a "mask", a veil of Maya that doesn’t allow to know his own personality. In everyday reality, people never show themselves for what they are, they take on a mask that makes them characters and does not reveal them as persons. The Zuki is a fundamental sculpture for man, to take inspiration and strength and face the world. 2021
