This sculpture was created during the first UK / wider international pandemic lockdown. It was a response to regular data updates from the UK government, which at that time were almost on a daily basis, and were heavily driven by increasing volumes of data in a growing variety of graphic data tables. In addition data and graphic information was also being presented on 24 hour news stations from many other countries across the globe. It very quickly became clear from a variety of sources that the accuracy of the data tables being provided both by the UK government, and from other international governments, was to say the least unreliable and questionable. Either through inaccurate data gathering processes, or in some cases through the presentation of clearly manipulated data. Whichever position it was, these were clearly misleading data tables. The table is constructed using two dissected chairs, one at either end of the table top. It is not possible to pull the chairs out from the table to allow anyone to sit at the table to undertake any meaningful discussions about the data being presented, or question it in any detail. Much as the politicians at the time were not prepared to sit down and openly discuss and develop plans with each other to better address the pandemic situation at the time. The table contains a number of graphs showing a range of misleading data. The red flags represent the governments confirming that their countries had identified cases of the virus. The green flags represent the governments insisting that they had identified no virus cases, despite many others sources highlighting a very different picture. The table top also contains an imprint of the virus 'footprint' on the 'red flag' side of the table. The reflective steel section on the table is placed beneath the bar chart to allow the viewer to see the data reflection below the published numbers (or 'beneath' the table top, and not provided to the public)

Chris is a professional artist based in the UK, producing artwork including Drawing, Sculpture and Photography. His work investigates the relationship between Humans and Creativity / Innovation. It is often informed by exploring ideas of increasing transitions and states of flux caused by rapidly growing volumes of change, and the resulting typical current responses to this, which demand constant creative and innovative human responses. It is also informed by exploring human responses to creativity and innovation, which come in many forms, and which appear to transform and translate subtly over time. Works can sometimes be a response to a range of potential triggers, capturing his immediate personal reactions to a wide range of contemporary events, found objects, materials, words and phrases, concepts and places and people he encounters. Chris attempts to combine his personal reactions, commentary and resulting storylines, with experimentation on how to effectively visually represent them, embedding this within the materiality of the artworks themselves. This often includes using found object deconstruction and re-purposing/recycling techniques, which challenge the current use or typical representations of the chosen physical objects or concepts. When existing objects, concepts or ideas are deconstructed or questioned, and then uniquely combined and reconstructed, they can convey very different and powerful images and messages.
