About The Artwork

I tried to capture the majesty of a bird that I found when I lived on the outskirts of Medellin (Antioquia) in a little house near the river. When I got there, I saw this bird and I said to myself: I WANT TO ETERNALIZE IT in my studio. I had already created my series of small birds in Silvania (Cundinamarca) trying to capture their bright colors and their lightness, now I just wanted to achieve the enigmatic colors of this bird that I had never seen before: deep blue, moss green, violet, aquamarine blue, orange, black and purple. Again I secluded myself in my workshop for months until I was fully satisfied with the results. It was necessary to look for the ideal materials, a metal cutter, to fold them, which was one of the most complicated tasks, and finally to paint the colored sheets, which was also one of the most exciting discoveries, since finding its 6 colors was not easy at all.

I was born in Bogota but spent my childhood and adolescence in Spain where I studied Journalism at the University of Navarra. I discovered my vocation as an artist at the age of 17 in a ceramics class at the school in Michigan where I did Senior High School, however I studied and dedicated myself to art with some intervals since I was 28 years old. This journey through several continents made me a person materially uprooted but fully rooted in my soul. Rebel by nature, I always go to the essence of things and people around me in search of their light, however I love solitude and that is where I am inspired to create my sculptures.
