This statue represents the dance of Shiva in the Nattaraja Pose. The dance of Shiva is described in the Indu holy texts and represents a dance to remove illusions from the eyes of mankind. Shiva is the god of transformation, which requires an element of destruction, hence the statue is broken in pieces. The statue stands horizontal rather than vertical and it is places of a rotating wheel so that it can actually dance. Video available on demand. It is carved in red marble from Italy on a walnut wood base.
