ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This sculpture was inspired by a plucky little Verdin finch that would scold me regularly as I worked outside my shop last year. Apparently my shop door was waaaay to close to his chosen nesting site. Happily he successfully raised his brood and vacated. He's back this year, of course, lobbing scathing high-pitched insults. I sculpted him using stainless steel, mild steel, and copper. He has just landed with a mouth full of copper pine needles to add to his nest. His nest is in the crook of an authentic antique post shovel. This light-hearted sculpture would make a cute addition to anyone's garden. Placed firmly in the ground, it would make an eye-catching support for spring tomatoes or fresh garden sugar snap peas!

I'm a sculptor and metalworker producing artwork inspired by the spectacular wildlife in the Southwestern desert. I believe art must not be static for it to connect. It has to feel kinetic, jarring, moving. I try to mix the physical and anatomical aspects of the animals I sculpt with the way they move or behave in nature. I love nice clean lines mixed with the rough, volcanic process of forging and working steel. All of the hours I put into a piece is documented on it's surface. I'm forever chasing the 'wow' factor with the pieces I produce.
