This works belongs to 'The Reimagined Tale' series. The works in this series seek to translate into concrete sculptural form, folk tales and myths from around the world. In this work, a jointed figurative piece, Tiamat a primordial Mesopotamian goddess of the ocean is reimagined. She was said to have mated with Abzu (the god of fresh water) and was a symbol of chaos. This work includes preserved fish fins and fish leather, as well as beading on her cape.

Kate is an artist based in the coastal town of Wollongong. Her works are predominantly three-dimensional, with each of her practices informing the others. Her more recent works have been inspired by mythology, folk lore and traditional narratives. The translation of these oral histories into concrete sculptural forms, using a mixture of found and carved timbers and natural elements is what drives her making practice. Kate makes both free-standing and wall pieces and works in a range of scales.
