ABOUT THE ARTWORK
'The Raising' is a steel & brass sculpture that reflects on the improvement of one's self. The firm grip of the brazen hand appears as if the creator, admiring his polished work may be taking a moment to reflect on his masterpiece. The rough ashlar cube, however, surely reminds him that the work is not yet finished, and will only cease once the final cube has been perfected. Only then will the creator lay down his tools and the labour and toil he had spent shall be what is left to memorialize a life of dedicated work. Allegorically, this represents the artist's interpretation of the passage of time and the importance of the never-ending drive for self-improvement until the sound of his tools ceases to be heard.
