ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In Norse mythology, the wolves of Odin, Geri and Freki (Old Norse, both meaning “the ravenous” or “greedy one”) are two wolves which are said to accompany the god Odin. They are attested in the Poetic Edda, a collection of epic poetry compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, in the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson, and in the poetry of skalds. The pair has been compared to similar figures found in Greek, Roman and Vedic mythology, and may also be connected to beliefs surrounding the Germanic “wolf-warrior bands”, the Úlfhéðnar. These Wolves are sold on an individual basis and the price quoted is for one wolf. Check out the Odin sculpture as well.

Born in Sandgerdi in 1975, she remained there for many years until her parents (Oskar Herbert Thormundsson & Elva Björk Georgsdottir) relocated to Njarduik and then Keflavik, which is where she resides to date and is also the home of Gallery Tobba. From the age of 4, she always wanted to be an artist and excelled in this field, as she became older, her love for art grew, inspired by classical artists such as Dali, Picasso, Delacroix, Michelangelo, and of course the famous Icelandic artist’s Johannes Sveinsson Kjarval and Erik Smith. Putting brush to canvass became a daily practice for Tobba but she wasn’t able to follow her dream of being a fully-fledged artist and had to carry out many jobs to keep her and her young son, Oskar. From being a fisherwoman, to working in aviation and then teaching art are some of the roles she carried out but after being diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. These diagnosis’s changed her life forever and against all the odds, she quit teaching art, much to the dismay of the ladies she thought art at MSS This next chapter of her life was to become one of the most challenging and prolific times of her life and saw her, throw herself totally into her art and the opening of Gallery Tobba. Dealing with the diagnosis of ADHD and dyslexia , Tobba had to dig deep into her soul and started producing, what one can only say is magnificent works of art. From exceptionally detailed sculptures of Norse mythology and beautiful creatures, through to wonderful paintings. Her style is fresh, crisp, thought-provoking, and simply beautiful, very much like her. Elegant, gorgeous, stunning, radiant, exquisite, delicate, divine, dazzling, enticing, enthralling, magnificent, mesmerising, charming, captivating, alluring is just some of the words I would use to describe the Art works of Tobba. You will spend hours with Tobba as she adores expressing and sharing her meanings behind her paintings and sculptures. In addition you also will learn of Icelandic history and culture here. Tobba is undoubtedly very friendly and helpful, this is a visit you won’t want to miss!!”
