ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This artwork (barcelet) is an attempt to scrutinize something that could be called the soul and its importance in our meaningful existence. In this body of work, which includes photographs, jewelry, and ceramics, I question the ways in which we express ourselves through material objects and how they reflect not only our primary needs but also our most transcendental ones. A mythological narrative gives way to rituals centered around specific objects in which we deposit our beliefs, fears, and hopes, and we can relate the soul within. I create a series of jewelry objects, made of silver 9.25, using traditional techniques. This handicraft has had different meanings throughout history, not just for decoration. For instance, it has been a part of the costume and a way to distinguish oneself. The design is based on natural, abstract forms, as if they were a kind of force kept inside the material, creating talismans that can be carried with us. I want to emphasize the significance of this ritualistic discourse, which involves a ceremony of symbols which are becoming less and less important in our aggressive society. My research involves exploring archetypal forms with the aim of reformulating the object. Amulets, talismans, and other objects from a mythological narrative are typically kept differently than common objects. Therefore, I will be sending it to you in an antic wooden box as it is believed to have a long life.
