About The Artwork

Description: Mini head-vessel with two symbolic handles/hair // Vessel of Rebirth is a contemplation on endings and beginnings. As human beings we try to avoid and fear endings - I am no exception. Being that vessel, we also have the choice to decide to end that which is depleting and start anew. We are the Vessel of Rebirth. Our parts continually die and are reborn within our lifetime. Our identities and character-selves follow the same pattern, hence we evolve. And now, the trick for us is to notice that process, flow with it, at times direct it, and lastly learn from it. From a personal experience it seems like rebirth happens gradually in one's vessel only when one is aware and ready. It’s a good change once consciously decided upon; otherwise, struggle is inevitable as parts of old and incoming new will be perpetually conflicted resulting in unnecessary hurt-loops. Unlearning helps to evaluate again [A GAIN], relearning helps to build anew with deeper understanding. This is a piece from Mini Sculpt series #2. Displayed on a special framed wall shelving unit.

Babayeva holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from Azerbaijan University of Languages. She has been sculpting since 2012, and began focusing on her sculptor identity during the pandemic, which led to Babayeva’s debut solo exhibition of sculpture R e v i v a l at the Arts Society of Kingston in June 2021. Her sculptures have been shown in group and juried exhibitions locally + virtually, and have been acquired for private collections. Babayeva’s love for figurative art propels her mission to make figurative sculpture visible and adequately represented in local galleries & art venues by inspiring a new interest in figurative sculpting and making it accessible to the art community & public, while pursuing its inclusion and advancement in educational art organizations. Recently, Babayeva has been awarded 2022 NYSCA Individual Artist Grant to cultivate figurative sculpture locally, within the Hudson Valley.
