About Dusan Rakic

Author was born 9.may 1965. year in Vojvodina's part of Panonija.. in extinted country Yugoslavia. With marquetry technique like prehistory's craft decorative older occupie since 1978. like primary school pupil, like secondary school pupil "Karlovac's school in Sremski Karlovci and like student of philosophy on Belgrade's university.He collaborated and he collaborates with restauratiors of antique's and masters of furniture in Belgrade.
Dusan Rakic is the founder and owner of the craft studio Marquetry Design.

Marquetry Design is an artistic craft workshop that cherishes and practices traditional craft skills of marquetry. Our intention is to refine and promote the aesthetics of modern living through the production of furniture and interior marquetry technique.

The primary goal of my practicing marquetry technique is an attempt to promote and affirm the almost forgotten beauty of this artistic craft.

To that extent I have, as part of my own self-improvement, focused on marquetry and interpretations of works by old masters’ paintings and drawings, starting from the fact that drawing foundation overall fine and applied arts.

Offered a broad spectrum of natural textures and colors of precious and rare species of veneer, ecological process of making marquetry applications and of course, the beauty of traditional handicraft manufacturing-techniques.

- july 2011 - awarded Honorable Mention (Specialita Items) of the contest Veneer Tech Craftsman's Challenge 2011 Veneer Technologies, Inc. Newport, USA.
- october 2011 - participation in international humanitarian exhibitions in Los Angeles, Long Beach, New York, Santa Ana, Oakland - Peace Project 2011 (to help victims of the civil war in Sierra Leone)
- january 2013 – State awarded certificate of the Ministry of Finance and Economy that confirms that products of entrepreneurial craft shop "Marquetry Design" are considered as an art crafts, have a special label "product of artistic craftsmanship" and the stylized mark "open hand";
- june 2013 – participation during the Days of Open Studios in Skadarlija, the central quarter of Belgrade;
- june 2013 – my appointment to position as vice president of the Board of Directors of the ”Association of ancient art and craft of Sombor, Vojvodina and Serbia”;
- july 2013 – participation in the regional Round Table "The role of traditional crafts in tourism development - opportunities and risks", organized by the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade, in the presence of curators, artisans, representatives of relevant ministries and government institutions, tourism organizations and the media.
- january / february 2014 - participation at the Muscat International Exhibition for Arts, Heritage and Creativity 2014, Sultanate of Oman.

- september 2019 - participation in the First International Festival in Kokand, Fergana
Region, Uzbekistan, together with over 1000 artisans from all regions of Uzbekistan, and 300 artisans from 78 countries of the world.
- august 2020 - winner of the 2020 Veneer Tech Craftsman’s Challenge in the Specialty Products category.
