Pura Gil

I was born in Elche, the Valencian Community, a land near the Mediterranean, my life and art are deeply rooted in the rich culture and vibrant landscapes of Arenales del Sol , Santa Pola and the Valencian coast.

This region, known for its extensive palm grove and its climate that allows enjoyment of all four seasons, has been an inexhaustible source of inspiration for me.

My work moves between two intimate worlds: the human face and the sea. I paint in oils, drawn to the way light behaves on skin and on water — how both hold memory, movement, and stillness at once.
In my portraits, I search for what lies beneath a fixed expression: a private thought, a fleeting emotion the sitter may not even be aware of showing. My seascapes come from the same instinct — the coastline as a kind of portrait too, ever-changing yet recognizable, shaped by tide and time the way a face is shaped by a life.
I work slowly and deliberately, layering oil paint to build depth and atmosphere rather than surface detail. My aim is not to record what something looks like, but what it feels like to stand before it — a person, a shoreline — in a moment that will not repeat.
