Youn Sung Park

I try to recreate the landscapes within my inner self, depicting them as new and utopian nature through simple lines and shapes
I pursue the beauty of simplicity that reveals the essence of landscapes, just as ancient cave paintings depicted everything with a single stroke. The simple and rough brushstrokes, yet rich texture create landscapes that are neither distorted nor exaggerated, giving a sense of comfort and familiarity.

Born into a traditional woodwork family, I was captivated by the color red from a young age, because the traditional woodwork made by multiple layers of lacquering on wood exhibits subtle and varied range of red color. Thus to me, it is the most Korean color connected to our traditions, and the main element in expressing the liveliness and warmth of our homeland

For a long time, I have been painting 'Sky and Land,' by symbolizing the sun, moon, stars, clouds, mountains, trees, etc. in one space. In the past, the landscape used to be my hometown, but recently it’s cosmic nature from my imagination
