Radoslav Vales

After completing Secondary school of Art in Prague I graduated at Academy of Fine Arts St.Petersburg 1991 (Studio of monumental painting).
I live and work in my Prague studio. My main interests are-acryl paintings, watercolours, ceramic and ilustration of children books.

I divide the paintings which I am creating recently into two interconnected groups. One group is formed by landscapes where I work mainly with the light, space and mood of the nature.
The antithesis to these landscapes is formed by the group of "abstract" paintings which are artistic capturings of things far less graspable such as feelings, reactions to an event I've heard about or something that resonated with me. It can be a piece of music, discovery in medicine, finding of an unknown planet, a photograph of a cell in a scientific journal or a discussion about search of God.
These paintings are made by an intricate technique of casting pait, its destruction and reapplication onto the surface, scraping and renewing. Also applied are techniques which are unexplored and haphazard. Unless stated otherwise, paintings are on reinforced hardboard covered by thin-foil aluminum. This material has very specific characteristics and, therefore, it is always a big question how it will behave and what it will enable me to create.
