I was born and brought up in Surrey. My father was Indian and mother from the north of England, Barnard Castle to be precise. They met in Cambridge where my father was studying medicine and my mother was a nurse. They worked together at Addenbrooks Hospital.
I am one of four children - my brother is the eldest, then myself and two younger sisters.
My anglo Indian heritage is a constant influence in my life and work.
I went to school in Banstead, Surrey and from there completed a pre degree course at Croydon College of Art. I studied Fine Art at Stourbridge College and then came to the Royal College of Art for a two years Masters - I was in the Environmental Media department because at that time I was working with three dimensional, transitional concepts.
I have worked as a Professor of Art History for many years, laterally with American Study Abroad students.
Exhibitions in crude - The London Group Open; The Rootstein Hopkins Foundation Drawing Exhibition; Discerning Eye; The National Open Art Exhibition; The Pastel Society; The National Open Print Exhibition.
I have also been shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Show and the Columbia Threadneedle Prize.
