Ralph Pringle

A multidisciplinary artist working mainly in oils, but just as at home with acrylics, pastels, charcoal and spray paint, I draw inspiration from everywhere. My work sits somewhere between the technical precision of the High Renaissance and the dark, dramatic storytelling of Baroque masters like Caravaggio — with a streak of punk energy running through it. That mix of classical influence and rebellious edge is what I call my own personal UtopiArt.
I’m drawn to compositions, materials and colours that hold the viewer’s gaze — elements that should clash but instead spark off each other, creating tension, attraction and a twist in perception. I start by stripping things back: simplifying shapes, analysing the abstract forms, and spending time just looking until an image, face or story begins to surface. From there, I build and rebuild, repeating that process as the piece evolves.
Beyond painting, I experiment with discarded materials like glass and tin to create large scale sculptures, using contrast and contradiction to challenge how we see everyday objects. I’m currently developing new concepts and planning a future exhibition that brings together these ideas and reflects my ongoing push for creative progression.
