RECOGNITION

Raul Rene Gonzalez, born 1981 creates artwork intersecting themes of fatherhood, labor, gender roles, identity, pop culture, and abstraction. His practice reflects a commitment to process and play, while remaining rooted in the realities of lived experience. By merging fine art with everyday experience, Gonzalez reclaims and elevates often-overlooked forms of labor and identity. Through a practice that is at once intimate and expansive, Gonzalez invites viewers to reconsider the boundaries of art-making—where it happens, who it includes, and how it speaks to the complexities of contemporary life.

Raul has a Master of Fine Arts in Art from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, Magna Cum Laude from the University of Houston. Raul also spent two years at Washington University in St. Louis School of Art from 1999 – 2001.
