Rich Smukler

It all started with the Brownie Hawkeye that my parents gave me as a young boy. And it never ended. My camera has been my quiet friend over the years, making wonderful company as I travelled the globe. It has been there to fight off what might otherwise have been lonely times.

From the salt flats of Badwater Basin in Death Valley to the swamps of Florida; the rocky shores of Maine to the abandoned silver mines of central Mexico; the magnificence of Bryce and Zion Utah, the slot canyons of Page, Arizona or the urban puzzles of such cities as Manhattan, Montreal, Philadelphia, San Diego, just to name a few. From the lavender fields of Canada to the wonder of Paris, Provence, Tuscany, Amsterdam, East Africa and China. I haven’t been everywhere, of course, but my camera and I have logged a few miles.

And then there have been the galleries, the museums, openings, lectures, workshops and of course, the fellow travelers found along the way. And all the faces, some reluctant, shy, exuberant, trying out for a role in my personal theater.
Millions have gone before me and many more will follow. Why take that sucker shot of the Eiffel Tower? The Amalfi Coast? Or the morning sun rising over the buzzing swamps? Because it is my personal journ...

Rich Smukler has blended his life-long passion for art and photography. His works have been featured in numerous museums, galleries and private collections internationally. While his cutting edge passion for graphic design has earned him accolades and awards for innovative style, his genre as a fine art photographer encompasses photo-realism to abstract graphic design. A love of Tuscany has taken him back to bella Italia on many occasions, camera in tow, in search of yet another perfect moment. He has drawn inspiration from such greats as Miro, Kandinsky, Pollock, Joan Mitchell, Arno Minkkinen, Sandro Santioli & Cartier Bresson.
