The foundation of Broadley's practise is to invent mathematical based systems in order to quantify our surroundings.
These systems vary in function but their ultimate aim is to convert our surroundings into numerical values; then into simple shapes and structures as a way of reducing and simplifying. The emphasis of this process is not on a final result or outcome but on the system itself.
Broadley's sculptures represent his systems; drawing inspiration from Second World War and Cold War technology he creates fictional machines and objects in order to highlight the role of the system in his process.
Using low-tech materials such as cardboard to achieve a 'home-made' aesthetic Broadley looks to bring his systems to life in physical form.
