For Rodrigo Pernas, his works enable introspective subjects to rise to the surface. Often, he does not know their shape beforehand: the lines become a way to define them. And while sometimes the issues that are explored are not his own, by proximity they become tangible, accessible, to him and to the viewer: “The only way I know how to solve them is first of all by defining them. You can see if they are now part of a bigger issue or if they stand alone. Waiting to be tackled.”

In working through these issues, Rodrigo Pernas’ paintings turn into colorful, living, even playful beings. With abstract expressionism as an undeniable influence, each painting appears as a dance, a reconfiguration of forms, lines, colors, irritations.
