Chris Lujan

In my practice, I create paintings and video performances that use the actions and expressions of mark-making to explore the biological body as a changing and evolving structure. I use representation of the body within the limitation of frame and space to explore the origin of psychological response that is rooted in the sentiments of tension and urgency. Through creation of gestures within bodily form, my work strips away recognizable references to time, place and location. It consolidates the action and/or poses of the body it is exploring. My work exposes the viewer to an image that investigates pre-conceived cultural perceptions of classification in the identity of the body.
