Ruth Thorogood

For Ruth Thorogood, art informs and inspires change. Raised in North America, Congo and Kenya, Ruth’s art is influenced by the creative diversity and stark dynamics of these unique cultures. With her background running a brand and marketing company for over a decade, the quality of her artwork is important to her, having produced large-scale, high quality designs for corporate environments.

Self-taught, her designs have appeared on exhibits to China, on large scale vinyl murals in hospital halls, and on billboards. She is always exploring textures and styles and is known for being innovative. Ruth has received awards for her work, and earned her professional design credentials in Canada, citing the following response from the credential panel: “We are impressed by the high level of professionalism displayed in your portfolio.” Through her paintings, she hopes to bring awareness to cultural struggles, social justice, and mental health, and inspiration to everyday life. Currently residing in Toronto, Ruth pivoted to abstract art in acrylics during the fall of 2020, creating well over 30 paintings in a few short months. Her first auction raised over $3,000 for homeless and anti-trafficking charities. Her passion for design and charities is evident in her time spent with both.
