Ryan Myers

Ryan Myers was born in 1978 in Long Island, New York. He received a BFA from Hartford Art School(2000). His work can be found in various galleries across the United States and Europe. He currently lives and works in New York’s Hudson Valley.

“Nostalgia is one of the fundamental building blocks that make up our sense of self, especially for the greater part of our later lives. I don’t seek to make paintings that could ever be mistaken for photos. Instead, I try to capture the displacement of memory. My work taps into that backward-looking instinct, the vague sense of something just out of our grasp.

The methods I apply in my work quite intentionally accentuate that lack of clarity, with shapes that repeat and echo, or allowing some of the under structuring of the work to peek through. If I’ve done what I set out to do then the viewer has been able to tell themselves a unique and personal story that started with my piece and ended somewhere within them.“
