Sally Trueman

I am a contemporary British artist based in East Sussex, working in pastel and oil. My paintings are inspired by the shifting light, colour, and atmosphere of the natural world, especially the changing moods of my garden. I’m drawn to the quiet, contemplative moments in nature, and I use layered mark‑making and subtle tonal transitions to create work that feels both expressive and serene.

I have exhibited widely, including with The Pastel Society at Mall Galleries, London, and my paintings are held in private collections in the UK and internationally. Represented by The Russell Gallery, London, I continue to explore the emotional resonance of landscape, floral forms, and the delicate balance between abstraction and realism.

I trained in Fine Art with a focus on drawing, colour, and observational practice, developing a foundation that continues to shape my work today. Over the years I’ve expanded my practice through ongoing study, workshops, and independent research into pastel and oil techniques, particularly those exploring light, atmosphere, and expressive mark‑making. My education has been a continual process of refining my visual language and deepening my connection to the natural world as a source of inspiration.
