Sally Shapiro

I was born in 1947, Sally Stultz, in Stockton, California. A drzwing of my mother was published in the Children's Digest before I was two. At fourteen I was called to the visual arts, and at 15 made a firm decision to become a sculptor. Between 1966 and 1986 I worked at my art alone at my job cleaning houses. I also was free to travel to Paris, Grance, with jazz muscian friends and hitched to Rio de Janeiro from California. Those intense experiences knowing life on a survival level were my inspiration.

I attended California College of Artsand Crafts on a scholarship, left after one semester. I didn't want to be processed into the art world and I was rebellious.
In 1986, I returned to college at CSUS iSacramento to study art winning a life size bronze commission after one sculpture class. I also became Steve Kaltenbach's teaching assistance for figure sculpture. I received a
B.A in Art, cum laude in 2003.
