Sam Marshall is a London based photographer and artist.
Marshall's work is concerned with the aesthetic re-interpretation of space, changing context and creating a new focus for the viewer that encourages them to re-interpret the world around them.
In his photography Marshall experiments with graphic images of abstracted reality and texture that act as ambiguous commentaries on contemporary culture. This mode of aesthetic expression explores the essence of our contemporary surroundings, and scrutinises how we engage with these surroundings ourselves.
In his paintings the artist explores the rhythms and networks of the city through erratic textures
to create images that explode with energy. These abstract compositions mirror the aesthetics of urban decay, and explore a space of contradictions: form and formlessness, order and chaos.
Marshall explores urban living, looking at connections and narratives within his work, affording the images ambiguity, which in turn opens them up to new meanings, new ways of being perceived and new ways for them to communicate with the viewer.
