Sara Gagnon

I was born in 1986 in Kelowna BC. I am the only daughter of eight children. I grew up with very supportive, encouraging parents and brothers. I’ve always been creative, but I did not start painting until I took a class at school when I was twelve. As I got older my love for the arts grew. However, as I grew as an artist, I found that the schools of teaching did not offer potential for growth in the way that I wished to proceed. I wanted to exclusively learn drawing and realism; I wanted to paint in a way that showcased my unique view of the world. Because I could not find what I sought in schools, I took control of my own education. I borrowed many books from the library, I enrolled in courses whenever possible, and I painted constantly. As I grew older, I decided to turn my art from a hobby to a career. I started to teach classes on painting, sketching, acrylic and watercolours. I also began to sell my work privately, in local galleries and in city-wide festivals like Lake Country ArtWalk. Currently, I teach art lessons through the city of Kelowna for artists of all ages.
