Sara Holden

I paint using representational, figurative and impressionistic styles to create my unique contemporary artworks in the Fine Art medium of painting. My work reflects the light and ambience found in coastal places that I visit, as well as referencing the UK coastline. I paint in watercolour, synthetic polymer (acrylic) or oil on hand made paper, canvas or board as well as painting on silk with Dyna-flow dyes (see Quay Reflections). My portfolio here is intended to give you a window into my work as an artist with the opportunity to own a unique piece of art. My paintings encompass my love of nature with land and seascapes being the main focus of my work. The inspiration I take from the sea especially helps shape and inform it. Living by the coast in South Wales, my daily walks take me along coastal foot paths and onto wonderful beaches. I record these journeys in my sketchbooks, working plein air and making photographs of things that catch my eye to use later in my studio. I find the ever-changing seasons inspiring in terms of colour and texture in relation to what I paint. I studied Fine Art at Wimbledon School of Art BA (hons) and Visual Arts MA at Swansea Metropolitan University.

I exhibited a painting in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2022 in London on the theme of Climate. The painting entitled "A Polar Bear's Survival Plea" on the theme of Climate is a large framed watercolour painting on Handmade rough paper and painted with watercolours. My painting was one of 4000 paintings chosen for the 2022 exhibition from 14000 entries submitted and was sold to a UK art collector. (4 - 9 % chance of having work selected for the RA). Two of my paintings for sale on Saatchi as prints - Old Whitey's Sea Grotto and Jewel have been previously exhibited at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea. Both are available as prints on my Saatchi Art page. My work is in private collections around the world and regularly exhibited in UK galleries. Most of the work shown on my page is available for sale as originals. Other work is available as prints if the original artwork is not for sale.
