Saskia was named after the wife of Rembrandt, due to her Dutch heritage and her parents’ wish for something distinctive.

Art showed itself early. At primary school she was already producing strong, recognisable images, and that instinct to create never left her.

Although largely self-taught, she completed a one-year Art Foundation course at Maidstone College of Art and Design to strengthen her technical grounding. Beyond that formal year, her development has been driven by her own persistence, experimentation and practice.

For many years she worked with brushes, producing portraits, animal studies and commissioned pieces while raising three children.

Ten years ago, she made a decisive change.

She put down her brushes and has never picked them up again.

Now entirely self-taught in her finger painting practice, Saskia works exclusively in oils, applying paint directly from the tube onto the canvas. The shift required her to retrain herself from the ground up, relearning control, pressure and detail, all very different from using brushes.

Her work is highly textured. Paint is layered, shaped and moved by hand, creating a surface that shifts with the light. As light changes throughout the day, different ridges, marks and depths...

One year foundation course in art and design.

Saskia has exhibited in a solo exhibition at Tramp nightclub, London. At the Talented Art Fair, London, Society of Artists and Potters twice yearly exhibitions and a ‘pop up shop’ in Fulham.
