I began my life as a professional artist in the East Village/Soho art scene of 1980's New York, and the Williamsburg Brooklyn scene of the 1990's. I've been making paintings for quite a few years now. my ideas are always evolving, and the techniques changing to stay in harmony with the subjects. My work over the years has swung back and forth between abstraction and figuration, and what I'm painting these days are people, in a loose expressionistic style, with a choice of materials that places the work in a political context.
This series is titled 'Where Is The Love?' and is my response to things happening in the world now. A mean spiritedness has taken hold. The news breaks my heart every day.
These paintings of people expressing either rage and disbelief, or kindness and affection for each other are painted on salvaged pieces of plasterboard, a reference to the damage being wrought on peoples' homes and lives by war and climate change.
Although the images are sentimental, the message is clear.
