Discover the Art of Light, Shadow, and Form with Sean Thornhill
Inspired by Bauhaus, Brutalism, Scandinavian design, and mid-century modern aesthetics, Cambridgeshire-based artist Sean Thornhill creates bold, architectural wall reliefs and prints.
Working from his garden studio, Sean constructs layered, minimalist compositions that play with depth and dimension. As natural light shifts throughout the day, his pieces evolve—casting dynamic shadows and highlights that give them a sculptural, ever-changing presence.
Alongside his reliefs, Sean’s minimalist prints offer a bold, graphic contrast. The relief print collages, created in sections on separate sheets of paper before being assembled and mounted onto wooden panels. The visible joins, seams, and imperfections are embraced, allowing the making process to remain part of the finished work.
Inspired by the layered surfaces of old advertising billboards and posters, the pieces explore texture, time, and the relationship between construction and image. The process becomes an essential part of the artwork.
