Sebastiao Miguel

Sebastião Miguel is a visual artist, researcher, and professor of painting at the Guignard School of the State University of Minas Gerais. His artistic career began in the 1980s and has developed primarily through painting, drawing, and photography. His practice brings together visual experimentation, image production, academic research, and the education of emerging artists.

In his paintings, he investigates color, gesture, space, and graphic procedures, approaching the pictorial medium from an expanded perspective. Drawing appears both as an autonomous language and as a tool for perception and visual thinking. Photography may function as documentation, archive, memory, and as a constitutive material of the artworks themselves. His research also addresses perception, subjectivity, representation, and contemporary poetic processes.

Part of his recent work incorporates diary pages, manuscripts, photographs, negatives, drawings, and fragments of writing. These materials form personal cartographies in which memory, time, landscape, and experience overlap.
