Seungho Jang

“For me, painting is a space where I can step outside a world of absurdity and oppression, and enter a deeper place within myself.”

Seungho Jang is a South Korean abstract painter exploring how to remain fully human within structures shaped by competition, conformity, and efficiency. For him, painting is not representation, but a space where sensation, memory, and existence can resist being reduced to function.

His layered surfaces emerge through repetition, dripping, erasure, accumulation, and spontaneous gesture. These marks are not decorative; they are traces of pressure, vulnerability, resistance, and survival.

Nature is central to his work—not as a subject, but as a mode of existence. Human beings are part of its fluid and constantly transforming order. Through fragmentation and reconstruction, Jang explores how life continues to reorganize itself within structures that attempt to contain it.

His paintings return to a persistent question:
How can we preserve the complexity of being in a world that continually tries to reduce it?

For Jang, painting itself is one possible answer: to sense one’s existence, resist becoming merely functional, and continue to live as oneself.
