Shan Roberts

I've been painting and experimenting for at least 30 years, and never stop learning or lose my enthusiasm for colour and texture.
I'm lucky to live in a very beautiful part of the world; Teignmouth in South Devon, UK, which is a wonderful coastal area and also within easy reach of the wilds of Dartmoor.
This environment gives me a wealth of ideas and inspiration for artwork, and together with my love of other special places such as St Ives in Cornwall and Pembrokeshire in Wales, these places feed my soul and my creativity.

My art education began at Secondary School in Somerset where I became very bored with painting "bones and stones" in sterile still-life arrangements. I began working with lino-cuts and other print processes, inspired by my mother, Gwen, an etcher.
Subsequently I have played with most types of media and styles, true to my butterfly Gemini nature.

Several academic art courses (Weston College, Somerset and Exeter College, Devon) have given me certification on paper, but very little satisfaction, as I have learnt far more from workshops with established local artists.

However, in the last 5-6 years I have found what I really love; semi-abstract paintings based on land- and sea-scapes, and with the additional interest of collaged paper and other materials. This seems to be my metier and I expect to continue with this for the foreseeable future, as it gives so much pleasure and adds richness to my work.
