Shanzay Subzwari

Visual artist, illustrator and art writer. Interested in kitsch, pop culture, currency, consumerism and the unseen. Currently hosts The Art Lounge Talks on Instagram Live and YouTube. My art x fashion brand : House of Subzwari.

My work combines elements from Mughal miniature paintings, currency notes and popular culture to comment on politics, history, society and the human condition.

Pursued an MFA with distinction from the School of Art, Architecture and Design, London Metropolitan University, London, UK, on the British Chevening Scholarship (2019/2020).

BFA from Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Karachi, Pakistan, 2014.

Graduated from Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture, Karachi with a Distinction in Dissertation, and the Sher Asfandyar Award for Academic Excellence in Fine Art. She writes art reviews and articles for various publications, and hosts the Nigaah Art Awards.

Shanzay Subzwari is a visual artist and writer with an MFA (distinction) from London Metropolitan University (on the British Chevening Scholarship, 2020). Her international exhibitions and residencies span Finland, Switzerland, Spain, Wales, USA, Italy, Turkey, and Pakistan. She works in miniature painting, video, and paper-cutting, with pieces held in notable collections, including the South Asian Institute, Chicago. She is an adjunct faculty member of her alma mater, Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture (2023-24).

Between 2021-24, Shanzay collaborated with brands like Spotify, SFK Bridals and Khaadi as an artist, designer and model. She hosts the ArtLounge Talks and the Nigaah Art Awards. She has a Art x Fashion brand, House of Subzwari and is a finalist of the Culture and Creativity Award at the Study UK Alumni Awards 2025 in Pakistan.

Since 2022, she has been in an artist exchange with Welsh artist Lauren Heckler and they received grants from the British Council and Wales Art International to travel to each other’s countries.
