I refer to my work as collage painting because it is the interaction of the two that interests me. Collage brings parchment-colored materials, lines and images to the work; the painting brings vivid color and spontaneous mark making to the mix. Together they create a dialogue of past and present, movement and line, muted and bright color. This interaction of time and texture create a story neither one could tell on its own.
We tend to think of photography as realism, something easy to recognize. However, A Walk Home captures images that are somewhat abstract. I photographed the sidewalks on Miami Beach under streetlights.
