About Sheila Moya Harris

I was born in Chelsea, London but moved with my family to South Wales in 1991. Although I was always interested in art, and always drawing, I didn’t start seriously painting until after my design degree in 2000. It was during my degree that I was introduced to the Fauvists. I was blown away with their use of vibrant colours and expressive brushstrokes ans as I studied their works I found my own paintings becoming bolder and more colourful. Their freedom from the traditional rules of colour continues to have a strong influence on many elements and aspects of my work today.
Working from my South Wales studio, I work predominantly in Acrylic and Oils, but occasional use charcoal or pastel as “more spontaneous mediums” for my portrait and life drawing.
