About SHTC Art Department
The SHTC Art Department team provides art education for 11-18 year olds. It is our intention to enable every student to work to the very best of their ability and to gain maximum enjoyment and personal reward from their artwork. Each year we hold a Summer Exhibition to celebrate the outstanding artwork our students create. www.shtc.org.uk www.twitter.com/SHTC_Art www.youtube.com/SouthHoldernessArt
Art is much more than the knowledge and skills detailed in assessment objectives, SoL and lesson plans. We hope students can develop their own unique understanding of the world and learn to express this through their artwork. Art is often an outlet for positive and negative life experiences and we aim to be sensitive to this. In a media controlled society which uses imagery to communicate and manipulate it is vital that our students develop a visual literacy in order to understand, interpret and express in the visual world in which they will live their lives.
Annual Open Evening event every October featuring live drawing by staff and students.
Annual Summer Exhibition in the first week of July showcasing outstanding artwork by all year groups at the college as well as local feeder primary school artwork.
The SHTC Art department also takes a role in organising and curating Hull's Fishing Heritage Art Exhibition held annually at St. John the Baptist (The Fishermen's Church) in Hull.
