Simona Messina

My paintings, on canvas or panel, are
layered, animated by dynamic gestures, influenced by the sign
painting of Hans Hartung and the energy of Jackson
Pollock. The poetics of contrast dominates
my art, manifesting itself in dualisms between
light and shadow, smooth and rough surfaces,
giving life to textural effects that give
depth and dimension to my works. In several works, the addition
of gypsum and gold leaf introduces further textural contrast,
enriching the tactile dimension of the paintings. The palette often
oscillates between vibrant, saturated tones and softer, more
atmospheric transitions, giving the paintings an elegant visual
harmony. The end result is a unique abstract style, where colors
are combined in
unusual ways, creating a visual energy that
captivates the eye.
