Simon Schneiderman is a close observer of gesture and nuance, a facility he developed as an only child. He built on that skill through years as a trial lawyer - keenly watching witnesses for hidden meaning. His work combines his love of the figure with his love of language to portray something that is true. Funny and poignant, his images ask us to lean in and listen carefully.
Simon Schneiderman is an artist who is partly self-taught and partly schooled. Having written for television in his twenties, Simon was beset with writers block in his early 30's. He hit on the idea of learning how to draw with the hope of freeing his brain into telling stories by using a different, visual language. Drawing suited his agitated temperament and he found that it had endless story telling possibilities. Soon after he started to add paint - specifically watercolor, to his drawings. Now Simon uses pencil, watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel and just about anything that can make a mark on paper to express his observations in pictures and words.
Simon Schneiderman has been exhibiting in galleries and art fairs for over 3 decades in Canada, The United States and Europe.
