Siyuan Ren

Siyuan Ren is a British-Chinese artist whose work centres on the peony, a flower rich in cultural symbolism and artistic history across East Asia.

Drawing on traditional Chinese Gongbi painting techniques, she works with ink and pigments on rice paper, silk, and panel, while also incorporating elements of oil painting and decorative arts. Her practice explores the meeting point between Chinese artistic traditions and Western ideas of beauty, creating works that are both culturally rooted and contemporary in their visual language.

Peonies form the foundation of her work. Through botanical studies, decorative compositions, and imagined narratives, she returns repeatedly to the flower as a subject through which to explore memory, atmosphere, ornament, and the relationship between nature and culture.
