Like many, I have tried many different media over the years to find the 'right' voice for myself. Or, to find something that I'm good at. I'm good at drawing. I'm good at interpreting what I see in a way that is unique to myself. However, I have no interest in rendering a subject in a totally realistic manner. There are artists who do it so much better and have a patience that I do not possess.
As a potter, I have relearned the skill of patience and love to explore different things on pottery - illustration, using pottery as a base for fine art abstraction - and now sculpture. Working both backwards and forwards in clay has opened up my paintings. I am very keen on portraying the wonderful landscapes of Ontario having grown up in Toronto and spending time all over Ontario, but right now, those paintings are a bridge of realism and abstract. Exploring boundaries. Leaving the interpretation of the north and all its seasons to the viewer. From the water, from shore, from the car -- this is a beautiful country.
