Smith's art is inspired by journeys. Sometimes these are metaphysical journeys. Other times they are real journeys, taken by herself or others. Smith also paints from vintage photographs and images involving current events.
In addition to her oil painting, Smith creates conceptual art from handmade charcoal. She creates charcoal from meaningful materials, whether political, sentimental, scientific or historic. She uses the charcoal to create meditative and contemplative art with deep underlying meaning or humor.
