Smadar Lomnitz

I am a multidisciplinary artist born in 1959, with a professional background in painting, drawing, sculpture, animation, and music. After a career as a digital sculptor in an animation studio, health challenges led to a transition in my practice. For a decade, I continued creating at home using various traditional materials. Following a further shift in my medical condition, I evolved my practice toward Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, where I have focused my work for the past five years.


My work is defined by a hybrid methodology. I am committed to absolute originality, using my archival sketches or new works created specifically for digital translation as my foundation. I use a specific AI model that allows for maximum fidelity to my source material, ensuring that the machine remains a tool for my artistic intent. At the same time, I deeply value the element of surprise that AI brings to the process, including the unexpected ways it interprets my work, which I then carefully refine and distill. My goal is to distance my work from a generic AI aesthetic, keeping my original composition at the heart of every piece.
