The writer R W Mitchell defined deception as a false communication that tends to benefit the communicator. Sousan Luqmans work attempts to expose deceptions conveyed through the ambiguities of political speeches and our propensity to be taken in by them. Our perception of the truth is based on our beliefs and our belief in others. These beliefs are based on many factors such as culture, religion and political affiliation. These factors connect us with our community, however small. This sense of belonging can, at times, mar our judgement.
Luqmans work is fundamentally about the dichotomy between the words that we believe are true and the deception that hides behind them. Do we know that we are being duped or are we oblivious to the deception?
